Day 13 - First Oncology Clinic Visit
We weren't sure what to expect.
But what we did know, is that we had a variety of medical professionals tending to Declan's every need. Oncologists to help with his solid tumor (neuroblastoma), Speech and Occupational therapists to assist with oral feedings, and a Physical therapist to help Declan recover strength and mobility in his lower extremities.
One nice aspect of this visit was to get a weight and vitals check. Declan had gained nearly 2 pounds in 2 weeks! I'd say the nutritionist's plans were certainly catching him up in weight. Here's a side by side comparison of Declan on April 27th (left), and May 10th (right):
He was certainly filling out something fierce.

The speech team gave us the opportunity to feed Declan some thickened liquids (Thickuids™) as well as train us on how to thicken his feeds at home. The one caveat, we cant feed Declan his Thickuids™ through his NG tube.
The best part of the day for Declan, was the playtime he received as part of his physical therapy.
Because his tumor had pinched whatever nerves it did in Declan's spine, his muscles in his pelvic region and legs weakened. Declan will need this therapy to play catch up with his gross motor skills.
As a comparison, here is Declan when he was movin' and shakin:
And here is Declan prior to receiving the steroids to help with the spinal cord compression (try to focus on his legs and feet):
With the medications Declan is on, as well as the assistance from his physical therapy, we hope to see Declan back to his happy old self where all he wanted to do was keep up with both of his older brothers (whom he loves and adores!).
